The 2nd International Workshop on MetaOS for the Cloud-Edge-IoT Continuum (MECC 2025) will be co-hosted at the ACM EuroSys 2025 that will be held from March 30 to April 3, 2025, in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The workshop aims at providing an overview of the opportunities and critical issues brought by a MetaOS orchestrating the Cloud-Edge-IoT ecosystem, particularly focusing on its deployment to optimize AI processes computational needs. Through a series of technical presentations, interactive sessions, and panel discussions, this workshop will address critical issues such as interoperability, standardization, and contribution to relevant open-source projects. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas, share research findings, and collaborate on innovative solutions to advance the field of MetaOS.

The Workshop on MetaOS for the Cloud-Edge-IoT Continuum invites contributions from researchers, developers, and practitioners working at the intersection of cloud, edge, and IoT, fostering a deeper understanding of how MetaOS can shape the future of computing in this exciting continuum. Join us in this exploration of MetaOS's potential to redefine the way we interact with and leverage the vast network of devices, sensors, and computational resources in the Cloud-Edge-IoT Continuum.

Topics of interest

  • Enablers, tools and mechanisms for MetaOS, services and applications
  • Latency, scalability, and connectivity issues in the continuum
  • Data protection, privacy, and defense mechanisms against emerging threats
  • Solutions and algorithms for distributed processing at the edge
  • Real-time decision making and AI models based on heterogeneous data
  • Practical applications of MetaOS in various industries, e.g., healthcare, smart cities, and industrial automation
  • AI/ML for resource allocation and predictive maintenance
  • Service and network orchestration in the continuum
  • Serverless computing and Function-as-a-Service in the MetaOS
  • Energy efficiency and resource optimisation by exploiting MetaOS benefits
  • Multi-tenancy at the edge of the network
  • Open Hardware and Software solutions for the MetaOS
  • Novel solutions for a transparent service migration across (far) regions
  • Business models for a multi-stakeholder MetaOS-based computing continuum

The audience of MECC would match the actual audience of EuroSys, which is mainly composed of researchers and practitioners working on Operating systems and Distributed systems. This workshop will constitute an opportunity for them to exchange ideas and tools on a new wave of distributed architecture and the consequent challenges in the management of this infrastructure.

Submission Instructions

Papers must be submitted electronically at https://mecc2025.hotcrp.com as PDF files, formatted for 8.5x11-inch paper. The length of the paper must be no more than 6 pages in the ACM double-column format (10-pt font). References are out of the 6 pages limit. Submitted papers must use the official ACM Master article template. The reviews will be single blind. The first page must contain an abstract, the name(s) and affiliation(s) of the author(s), as well as the corresponding contact information. Each submission will receive independent, blind peer reviews from the program committee. Accepted papers will be published in the ACM Digital Library. At least one of the authors of every accepted paper must register and present the paper at the workshop.
